Strategic Aim

This project falls under our  third strategic aim;

Provide Supports to the Culture and Creative Sector

Project Description

CREW “Creative Enterprise West” is a collaborative initiative led by Atlantic Technical University (ATU), Galway the Western Development Commission (WDC) and Ardán (formally the Galway Film Centre). CREW supports enterprises in areas such as design, film and TV production, animation, gaming, content development and AR/VR from its base at the ATU Galway campus at Cluain Mhuire, Galway. CREW are responsible for building the first digital/creative hub in the west. This was one of the projects initially outlined in Galway’s bid to be a European Capital of Culture.

We are now building on the legacy relationship and Galway Culture Company and CREW are offering a Creative Practitioner in Residence programme based at the new CREW Creative Enterprise & Innovation Hub in Galway for creatives either living in or from Galway City or County. The aim of this programme is to help build and foster a creative enterprise community in Galway.

The programme will span across multiple disciplines, aiming to break new ground in creative expression, entrepreneurship and community engagement. Selected creatives will work on projects that not only reflect their creative visions but also explore the theme of Creative Communities such as the role of AI, Inclusion and Belong, the future of Technology x Creative Practice.

During their residencies, creatives will be invited to engage with CREW members working in the CreaTech sector, fostering dialogue with industry, and exploring innovative methods of creative enterprise development.

Residencies are 1 month in duration, with a total of 4 residencies from June – September 2024. Practitioners will be provided with a workspace at CREW’s Hub in Galway, networking and mentorship opportunities, a €1,000 stipend and a bespoke seminar series developed in partnership with Galway Culture Company.

Project Outcomes – what we expect from this project

The Open Call was announced in April, and four creatives have been selected for participation in the programme. Rocio Romero Grau, Conor Maloney, Jane Cassidy and Miguel Escobar will be exploring a diverse range of projects in 2024, and will be hosting a series of Creative Talks throughout their residency to share more about their work.

The programme will host the four creative practitioners for a month-long residency between June and September 2024, offering them the opportunity to engage with the CreaTech community, develop their projects, and showcase their work. Residents will benefit from access to workspace at CREW’s new Creative Enterprise & Innovation Hub, mentorship from industry leaders, networking opportunities, a bespoke seminar series, and a €1,000 creative bursary funded by Galway Culture Company.
