Creative Communities: Creative Practitioner Residency Programme

Galway Culture Company and CREW are inviting applications for a Creative Practitioner in Residence programme based at the new CREW Creative Enterprise & Innovation Hub in Galway.

Building and fostering a creative enterprise community is one of CREW’s core values; we are seeking digital creatives/creative tech practitioners to participate in a month-long residency programme exploring the theme of Creative Communities.  This may include ideas such as the future of Technology x Creative Practice, the role of AI in Creative Communities, Inclusion and Belonging, Global Networks.

Eligible practitioners will be working in the areas of animation, game design, immersive technologies (AR/VR/XR), media production, or digital design.

During their residencies, creatives will be invited to engage with CREW members working in the CreaTech sector, fostering dialogue with industry, and exploring innovative methods of creative enterprise development.

Residencies are 1 month in duration, with a total of 4 residencies planned from June – September 2024.  Practitioners will be provided with a workspace at CREW’s Hub in Galway, networking and mentorship opportunities, and a bespoke seminar series developed in partnership with Galway Culture Company.

What is offered:

  • One month residency (June, July, August, September)

  • €1000 stipend
  • Creative Entrepreneurship seminar series in collaboration with Galway Culture Company

We would like to ensure that at least one residency is for a Creative Practitioner who has lived experience of displacement or intergenerational migration, or are from historically marginalised communities or groups. (If you are uncertain if you are eligible for this strand, please contact us and we will be happy to help).

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for these bursaries, you must be a Creative Practitioner either living in or from Galway City or County.

Application Process and Requirements

To apply for a Creative Practitioner bursary, please submit the following materials:

  1. Creative Practitioner Statement: A short statement describing your creative practice. (maximum 500 words)
  2. Sample Work: A selection of your recent work/projects, demonstrating your creative practice: please include up to eight high-quality digital images, video/sound links, or other relevant documentation with contextual information such as the digital tools/medium, scale, audience, and description of work (jpeg/ pdf /word doc files only please)
  3. CV/Resume: A current CV/resume highlighting your creative practice experience
  4. Proposal: A proposal that outlines your ambitions and use of the residency experience, and how it will benefit your broader creative practice (maximum 1,000 words)

Please indicate your preferred residency month (June, July, August, September) in your submission.

Deadline for Submissions: 5pm May 17th 2024

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by representatives from CREW and Galway Culture Company, as well as an independent assessor.

The selection will be based on:

– Creative Practice Quality and Potential (30)
– Ambition and vision of the proposal (30)
– Feasibility of the proposed ideas (20)
– Potential impact of the award on the development of the applicant’s practice (20)

The successful applicants will be notified via email by 24th May 2024
