Project Description:
Scéal na Gaillimhe was a unique initiative that aimed to capture the essence of Galway’s cultural, historical, and artistic heritage through the creative expressions of local talent. The project featured artists, performers, makers, designers, and creatives from Galway City and County working through the medium of the Irish language in an exciting project that celebrated the rich tapestry of Galway.
The open call sought innovative and diverse submissions from creatives to contribute a 10-minute piece of work to Scéal na Gaillimhe, to explore the city and county’s narrative from their own unique perspective.
The open call was closed in December 2023, with selected works being produced individually in the areas where their creators are from, which made the entire city and county a canvas for this exciting venture.
We were delighted to support so many artists in the making of a very unique and special body of work celebrating the story of Galway through the Irish language.
Projects outcomes – what we expect from this project:
Six successful applicants were selected through an open call and presented their work on stage in An Taibhdhearc on the 7th of April at 6pm. The successful projects were:
- Damhsa na gCoiníní
- Dúmhál
- Flogaist
- Ar an Dé Deireadh
- Ceangal na Coiribe
- Ainmniú na Cathrach
The projects featured a mix of dancing, music, theatre and more.
