Project Description
An exciting new pilot tourism initiative for the streets of Galway City is currently recruiting volunteers to meet and assist visitors during the summer months. The Galway Street Ambassadors programme, developed by Galway Volunteer Centre in partnership with Galway Culture Company, is looking for people to be part of a team to assist visitors to the City Centre with information on Galway City ranging from practical advice to information on events and activities taking place over the busy summer months.
The role of the Street Ambassadors will be to walk a route around the city, chatting to and offering help and information to tourists during a 3-hour shift. Volunteers are required to do at least 1 shift per month and will be paired with other volunteers.
Project Outcomes – what we expect from this project
- To make visitors feel more at home in Galway by sharing local knowledge about the city and the many cultural events happening
- To assist the diverse arts and culture sector in Galway in promoting events and activities to both the local population and visitors from overseas, with a specific focus on European visitors
- To build capacity of ambassadors in customer service and local knowledge to enable them to engage with visitors to Galway City to signpost to relevant cultural events and activities with Failte Ireland
