Project Description
This series of artist development workshops by Galway Arts Centre are organised by curator and writer Iarlaith Ní Fheorais. They were developed around the artistic concerns of artists living across Galway and the West. Hosted by leading artists, curators and cultural programmers they will focus on access, social engagement and creative grant writing and are designed to provide the skills necessary to making accomplished work today and to avail of vital opportunities. The workshops are for artists at every stage of their career and across visual art disciplines.
Project Outcomes – what we expect from this project
The following workshops took places as part of the series:
Sarah Browne – Access, October 7 from 16:30 – 19:30
In this workshop, artist Sarah Browne will share her approach to accessibility in her practice, followed by a practical session on collaborating with access workers and creating tools like captions, audio descriptions, and alt text to reduce barriers for disabled audiences.
Joselle Ntumba – Socially Engaged Practice, October 21 from 16:30 – 19:30
In this workshop, cultural programmer Joselle Ntumba will share her approach to socially engaged practice through the project Éireann and I, followed by a practical session guiding participants on designing their own socially engaged projects with a focus on ethics, key stakeholders, and effective methodologies
Kate Strain – Creative Grant Writing, November 4 from 16:30 – 19:30
In this workshop, curator Kate Strain will guide participants through best practices for writing about their art practice for proposals, grants and funding applications, including a presentation on her approach to securing project funding and a practical session on application writing.
