Culture Next Open call for Burgos 2031

Proposal for European Cities in the Culture Next network interested in becoming partners in Burgos 2031’s Open Call. This call is open to artists from cities in the Culture Next network! Galway joined this network to ensure greater EU opportunities for mobility and collaboration for Galway-based Artists. This call is for ideas for the cultural project in Burgos European Capital of Culture 2031, entitled ‘Renaissance’.

Burgos 2031 is looking for artists from cities in the Culture Next network to join forces with local artists from Burgos in the Call for Ideas for the cultural project of Burgos European Capital of Culture 2031, entitled “Renaissance”.

The Call for Ideas is aimed at local artists and collectives partnered with artists from the Culture Next network cities. It seeks to strengthen the European dimension of cultural initiatives in the network, the joint reflection on common European values, and the generation of active participatory processes with the citizens of Burgos. The projects should be inspired by the values of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), a movement that promotes three key principles: reconnecting with nature, regaining a sense of community and belonging, and the need for long-term, life-cycle thinking in the industrial ecosystem.

The Call for Ideas is open to cultural projects that use any of the following five mediums: visual and plastic arts, film and audio-visual, performing arts and music, digital art, and artists / creative economy hybridisation. The projects will be developed in Burgos by April 2024.

The jury will select ten projects, which will each receive €14,000. It will evaluate the projects based on their collaboration with social and neighbourhood collectives, the use of collaborative participation processes, the promotion of contemporary artistic creation, and the use of art to reflect upon the future of medium-sized cities and their challenges, such as depopulation, talent drain, and aging.

The deadline for submitting proposals is July 6, 2023.
