Branar sa Scoil

Commissioned by Galway Culture Company

A new creative arts engagement offering for schools in Galway City and County

From January 2024

Branar, Ireland’s leading theatre company for children, has been commissioned by Galway Culture Company to create two new arts engagement offerings for schools in Galway city and county spanning music, theatre, and visual arts.

Branar is excited to offer two new initiatives for schools across the city and county.

Rockin’ the Classroom a music education programme in Irish and English for children in Junior & Senior Infants, 1st & 2nd Class.  This is a multiplatform education pack which includes videos, a CD and workbook, that brings the music from Branar’s show Rockin’ Rhymes into classes and will be posted to every school in the city and county.

Along with this, in Spring 2024 Branar will deliver a multifaceted creative arts programme in four Galway DEIS schools, across a range of artforms.

The programme for each of the four participating schools will be devised in collaboration with the teachers with a view to ensuring maximum impact for the participating children. The programme will include hands-on creative arts workshops, extended creative arts programmes, the Acorn Digital Arts Flag, as a well as a live performance of Branar’s new show.

The four participating schools will be selected through an open call to DEIS schools across the city and county. More information on the open call will be available at

Marc Mac Lochlainn, Branar artistic director says, “This is an amazing opportunity for us at Branar to have meaningful engagement with 4 DEIS schools in Galway and bring to them a programme of arts activity that will support and celebrate the creativity of every child in the school from January to June.”

Orla Henihan, Branar head of engagement says, “We’re thrilled that this collaboration with Galway Culture Company gives us the opportunity to bring Rockin’ the Classroom to every school going child in Galway City and County.”

The application form will be available on in November for DEIS Schools in Galway city and county. The selected schools will be informed in December 2023. In March 2024, Rockin’ the Classroom will be sent to every school in Galway.

The open call and project are supported by the Galway Culture Company. Galway Culture Company is supported by the Government of Ireland under the National Development Plan through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
