Architecture at the Edge (AATE) are delighted to announce that its flagship architecture education programme Design Lab will return this autumn.
The Design Lab project focuses on the development and organisation of creative projects with local school(s) and offers a unique, hands-on education programmes for young adults inspired by place that introduces students to architecture through hands-on designing, making and doing.
The 2024 edition of the programme is supported by the Galway Culture Company and three teams of creative practitioners have been selected whom have expressed an interest in championing the ideas of young people in Galway City and/or County to help them realise the potential of a better designed built environment.

Over the duration of the program, students will not only learn about, but take part in and manage the design and build process from start to finish.
With the guidance of the Design Lab Ambassadors, a group of multi-disciplinary creatives, students will channel their ideas and inspiration into creating a real, tangible, design for a large-scale build.
The Design Lab initiative came from a collaborative venture between Architecture at the Edge with education organisation Matt + Fiona whom have a long history of working together on architectural education initiatives. It offers a unique, hands-on education programme for children and young adults inspired by place.
Design Lab aims to build a confident curiosity in those who take part, sharing the know-how to shape and influence the spaces and places in which we live.
Commencing in early autumn the program will consist of a series of workshops held with each participating school in the lead up to the co-design and construction of a full-scale installation in a shared space which will then be open to the public to visit.
Architecture at the Edge are seeking expressions of interest from both schools and youth organisations to join us for Design Lab 2024. Read the call out here.
